ABOUT THE ROLE - FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

 

As a key member of the Belfast Waterfront and Ulster Halls’ (BWUHs) team, you will report directly to the Director of Finance, Risk, and Corporate Services.

 

In this role, you will oversee the financial operations of Belfast Waterfront and Ulster Hall Limited, managing all aspects of financial administration, monitoring income and expenditure, and preparing comprehensive financial reports.

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and compliance of the organisation, contributing to strategic decision-making, and driving financial efficiency and effectiveness.

Financial Controller

This person will be a key member of the Belfast Waterfront and Ulster Halls (BWUHs) team. You will report to the Director of Finance, Risk and Corporate Services.


This role will have responsibility for overseeing the financial operations of Belfast Waterfront and Ulster Hall Limited. You will manage all aspects of financial administrations, monitoring income and expenditure, and preparing comprehensive financial reports. You will ensure financial health and compliance and contribute to strategic decision making, driving financial efficiency and effectiveness.

The Role


Finance & Reporting:

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts, including explanations of relevant matters
  • Preparations annual statutory accounts.
  • Ensure accurate accounting records are maintained.
  • To research and review new finance and accounting developments and make recommendations for upgrading of services
  • Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns and other tax-related returns.
  • Preparation of any ad hoc reports
  • Treasury management


Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, review and action overdue debtors, and compile cash flow forecasts
  • Preparation of monthly variance analysis comparing budget to actual, forecast, and prior year, including explanations of relevant matters
  • Analyse financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying variances and providing insights to key stakeholders.


Budgeting and Control:

  • Preparation of financial forecasts and budgets, event costings and commercial finance reviews
  • Preparations of each activity/division on the accounts and present budgeted management accounts for inclusion in the coming year's reports
  • Conduct regular reviews of all company controls and accuracy of reporting, identify and implement new procedures and policies to manage risk and drive business improvement.
  • Meet Executive Leadership Team and Senior Leadership Team members consider performance against budget, review budget risks and forecast current year outturn.
  • Liaison with external and internal auditors
  • Management of risk


Systems and Analytics:

  • Responsible for the development and provision of accurate, timely and relevant financial management information and the development of appropriate reporting systems in conjunction with relevant internal partners.
  • Liaise with the Systems team and relevant stakeholders to review, develop, update, and put into operation the financial systems, policies and procedures as required, and to assist with system administration.
  • Regularly review the company’s financial systems to meet changes in financial reporting standards and regulations.
  • To ensure the VEMS system is developed to support business growth.


Management Duties:

  • Manage and control the day-to-day activities of finance staff, including overseeing tasks such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, and budget management.
  • Establish clear workflows and processes to streamline operations and optimise efficiency. Foster open communication and collaboration among team members, ensuring that information flows seamlessly and deadlines are met consistently.
  • Set clear performance expectations for finance staff and provide regular feedback and coaching to support their success. Manage in line with the organisation's performance framework and identify areas for improvement or development.


Additional duties:

  • Continually monitor, review and update accounting policies and regulations in line with International Financial Reporting Standards and the relevant Codes of Practice.
  • Support the development of financial skills in the organisation through the development and implementation of a finance training strategy.
  • Undertake research applicable to the development of relevant strategies, policy and statutory requirements and ensure that the relevant company policies and procedures are maintained, including implementation of new Codes of Practice and Financial Reporting Standards.
  • To act as one of the company’s authorised signatories for all bank accounts.
  • To deputise for the Director of Finance, Risk and Corporate Services
  • Act in accordance with company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • To undertake such other relevant duties as may from time to time be required.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS


  • Third level qualification or equivalent
  • Qualified Accountant – ACA, ACCA, CPA, or CIMA
  • Experience of managing a finance function with experience in statutory accounting and reports
  • Budget management in a commercial environment.
  • Team Management




SALARY & BENEFITS


  • Up to £55,000 (DOE)
  • 23 days holiday + 10 days Bank Holidays.  1 day leave per year completed, maximum of 28 days.
